MDOT Construction Project Update (US-31)
MDOT will start work to complete structural steel painting on US-31 over Lakewood Drive on April 24. In order to complete this work, they will have 2 lanes closed on Lakewood Boulevard for approximately 2 weeks. They intend to be complete with the painting at this structure and have all lanes on Lakewood Boulevard reopened prior to the start of the Tulip Time Festival. In the event that they aren’t able to finish, work will be suspended and all lanes reopened prior to the festival. During work on the bridge, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Lakewood Boulevard on ½ of the roadway. There should be no impacts to US-31 traffic during this work.
After completion of the work at Lakewood, the bridge painting will move to US-31 over the Black River and US-31 over Chicago Drive. Any work during the Tulip Time Festival will be completed utilizing only shoulder closures and will not have any lane closures.
Lane closures will resume on US-31 and Chicago Drive after the Tulip Time Festival. Whenever possible lane closures will be conducted during off-peak hours to minimize disruption to traffic.
MDOT expects to be fully complete with the last of their work by mid-June.
